The Huge Trade Off

Published on April 24, 2012 by in Money, Philosophy

Time and money.

In my opinion, these are the two most important factors in anyone’s life. All day, everyday, we make the distinction of whether X amount of time is worth X amount of money. Is this movie worth $15 to go see? Is this concert worth going to? Down to go clubbing tonight? How may bottles should we pop? We live in a world where everything revolves around money and we have to trade time to get it. The key difference between those who are rich and those who are poor is simply how an individual leverages this relationship. A smarter man will find a way to make more money for less time, while the dummy will never think about time and money in these terms.

State of the Economy (April 2012)

Published on April 19, 2012 by in Money, Philosophy

Tough luck buddy

We are a long ways away from a recovery. Fear still runs rampant in the market and the economy is inching its way at best, to what we’ve seen post 2008. I still remain hopeful though because that’s all you can do at this point. Here are some factors weighing on the economy at this very moment.

I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise

Published on April 10, 2012 by in Philosophy

Sometimes I sit and wonder what life would be like if I had made different choices in what I like to call the turning points in my life. What if I had taken French instead of Spanish in HS? What if I hadn’t gone out with that one crazy girl in college? What if I had just paid attention to the stock market in 2004 instead of losing my ass in 2008? What if I majored in Bio instead of Business Economics? What if I had started this blog earlier? What if, what if, what if … life is full of what ifs. Though I am a strong advocate in moving forward in life and never backward I still find it necessary to look at past experiences and remember the lessons I’ve learned.

Grass is Always Greener

Published on June 17, 2011 by in Philosophy

If only it were this easy to tell right? hah

The grass is always greener on the other side my friend. Truest cliche ever. Every time I think about my life and how I wish I had someone elses, I end up always always realizing, the grass is always greener.

You never ever know what’s going on in someones personal life. They can seem happy and stable on the outside but in reality they can have serious issues that nobody would ever know about. The world is a crazy place, and if you worry so much about the lives of others, you’d lose focus on your own.

It’s never in peoples best interest to be publicly open about their issues no matter how how great or small they are. Just look at your Facebook, you think everyone of your friends are as happy or stable as their profile suggests? You think that no one else has problems that are as great as your own? There is an unfathomable amount of types of people in this world, with an infinite combination of personality traits and it’s very hard to see who’s really happy and who isn’t. Read more…

For All You Graduates Out There

Published on June 13, 2011 by in Philosophy

Funny man, Funny speech

This year’s celebrity commencement speeches were a great watch. The speeches really brought to light the current events and the specific struggles 2011 graduates will face (specifically shallow graduate job pools). Here are two of the best speeches I’ve seen this year. Conan O’Brien at Dartmouth College and Denzel Washington at UPenn.

Some possible good speeches coming up:

Tom Hanks: TOM HANKS WILL SPEAK AT YALE

Stephen Colbert: FAKE NEWSMAN STEPHEN COLBERT WILL SPEAK AT NORTHWESTERN

President Obama: POTUS does double duty, SPEAKING AT THE U.S. COAST GUARD ACADEMY and MIAMI DADE COLLEGE

Top 10 Young Entrepreneurs

Published on June 9, 2011 by in Money

High five for those who can remember having stacks and stacks of these around the house

I was looking around online, and I found this list of Young Entrepreneurs. Notice that everyone here is under 30. It’s amazing they’ve all accomplished this much before most of us aren’t even done paying off our school loans.

You can also note that everyone on this list has made their money through Internet based ventures. The internet is still very young, though we’ve come very far from the humble beginnings (AOL, Netscape, and dial-up), it’s still the future of how business will be done.

If you can take a guess if more or less people will be online within the next 5 years, what would it be? If you guessed less, I suggest you vacate from the rock you’ve been living under for the past 10 years. The answer is more. In fact based on studies done by various universities, 50 million more people are getting online and more involved with social networking and/or email each year.

If you want more information on how to start your own website, you should read this guide here.

STOP DOING SHIT THAT DOESN’T MATTER

Published on May 27, 2011 by in Philosophy

What’s one piece of advice thats stuck with you throughout your whole life?

For me, it was probably 4-5 years ago. I was over at my Uncle’s pad for dinner with a bunch of fam, and we were talking about careers. I remember I was approaching the big 2-0 and it was about to get serious. Especially because I knew I was halfway done with college and I had no idea what I wanted to do. I needed to figure shit out real fast.

I asked a couple of my uncles what they did for a living. One was an FA (financial adviser). My other uncle was a Hedge Fund manager. He helped wealthy individuals, institutions and entities invest in stocks, bonds, commodities, currencies. You name it, he invested in it.

If you know anything about the financial industry, you’d know Hedge Fund Managers generally make quite a bit of money. I’m talking about 30-100 million a year.  He graduated summa cum laude with a B.S.E from the Wharton School. He began his career as a financial analyst involved with M&A (mergers and acquisition) eventually going on to be an investment analyst. He went on to start his own hedge fund at which he still owns today. I was in awe of his accomplishments and I had to ask him for some advice. Read more…
